  1. No one can rule the world. The British came close in 1920,but they were bankrupt and the Irish wanted out at the peak. The Spanish came close in 1600,with Spanish Tercio regiments destroying up every rival on land and the Galleons patrolling the seas, only the Dutch or English providing any challenge. The Russians stood at the gates of Paris in 1814, and looked as if they would dominate the continent. They achieved that in 1945. The USA is more powerful than any other, with unparalled cultural influence. But does it really work. At some point the imperial project goes to far.
