@randimcmillan3148 If you were the Gov of NY during the pandemic without the benefit of hindsight where would you have forced these elderly people to go after being discharged from the hospital? A FEMA Camp? OF COURSE they have to go HOME back to their assisted care facilities - its THEIR HOME, ITS WHERE THEY LIVE. You can't pitch up a tent in a parking garage and FORCE these people to live there. It's not possible and there are very real moral and legal dilemmas with that course of action. Elderly people HAVE RIGHTS.

Jay Bee Where are residents of nursing homes supposed to go after being discharged from the hospital? Hospitals were max capacity and beds available for only those in the most dire circumstances so I don't understand where people expected these old folks who require assisted living to go. The nursing home is THEIR residence..

In this day and age as a male you cannot express any interest in female colleagues in any way shape or form. You can't touch them on the arm, you cant open doors for them, you can't look at them for more then 0.02 secs otherwise you assaulted them.

@dianenordstrom2770 You are not being realistic. Those elderly people LIVE at the nursing home. It is THEIR HOME and these people have Rights. You can't shuttle them around like cattle to places not equipped to assisted living facilities staffed by people not certified or trained in assisted living care. This willy nilly completely unthoughtful suggestion that they can just be put on that boat or put in field hospital to live for possibly months is ridiculous, immoral and probably highly illegal. The fact remains that letting them go back home to their assisted living centers was the best option at the time and if people socially distanced and took the proper precautions that was the safest place for them to be.

@boem3021 you have walnuts in your head.; lmao and confining old people in a ship that is not designed or prepared to be a assisted living center is not a realistic course of action. Plus those people HAVE RIGHTS you cant just lock them up! wake up! And the reason why the ships weren't being used for the virus is because there isn't proper equipment on the ships to deal with virus control! That is why hospitals were sending trauma patients to the ships to make more room for virus patients. Its not as simple as you think sunshine
2
K B that ship was designed to deal with trauma patients not viruses and definitely not an assisted living center. Got to use your brain

@jamesmaynard9128 lol k nah

@jamesmaynard9128 no my original comment wasnt about the nursing home stuff its about the sexual assault allegations.

@jamesmaynard9128 Where were the old people supposed to go? Fema camps?
1
@jamesmaynard9128 You want old people to be barred from returning to their homes and instead sent to die in the streets? Is that what you are saying?
1
@jamesmaynard9128 you sound like you aren't thinking this all the way through. The nursing home is THEIR home. Where else are they supposed to go?
1
@jamesmaynard9128 Why do you keep deleting all your previous comments? Looks like you are the one playing cleanup. Seriously though answer the question; Where should they have sent all these old people? To your house?
1
K B nope wrong. Hospitals were not free at all. How do you have an opinion about this but don't know the basics?
1
K B nah, I'm asking the question to see if there are any actual viable solutions but so far I haven't heard any and you certainly didn't provide a single one.

K B first, its easier to throw out ideas in hindsight but you have to remember that very little was known about this virus in the beginning. The tents, the boats, the converted public spaces were all things that came AFTER the initial spike and no one at the time knew how long a person is infectious. Also you have to consider that these elderly people living in assisted care facilities have Rights just the same as everyone else. These facilities are their homes and denying them the right to return home after being discharged from the hospital poses lots of other moral and legal dilemmas that have to be worked through. On top of that assisted living care is different then being in a hospital - it requires different training and different certifications. One cannot simply pitch up a tent in a parking garage and say "ok this is now your new assisted living facility" it's just not that simple... Can you imagine the backlash Cuomo would have gotten if he basically set up FEMA camps to deal with these old people denying them their Rights and forcing them to live in substandard tent facilities? Cmon..

Jay Bee floating hospital is not a assisted living facility and elderly people have Rights not to be corralled into internment camps like you want.
1
Jay Bee why do you think elderly residents of nursing homes don't have rights?
1
Jay Bee You are saying you don't by acting like they don't have the Right to return home like everyone else when discharged from the hospital. Corralling them onto a ww2 era navy hospital boat to sit in a bed for the months as if they are cattle is immoral and highly illegal.

@robertholmes8835 If you are a resident of a nursing home and you get sick with covid and go to the hospital where are they supposed to send you afterwards if not back to the nursing home WHERE YOU RESIDE?
