2:38 I really hope you read this comment. I should in short tell you that especially in shithole countries, "recycling" consists of shipping the crap to India, China and most often burning it down or dumping into the sea,etc.
To be precise, before the ban, only 9% of all the plastic shipped was recycled. The rest (91%!!) was dumped on landfills or thrown into natural waters (79%) or burned (12%).
But to be precise, 95% of all "recyclables" collected in the European Union and 70% from the USA were just shipped to China to be burned or dumped on landfills, in oceans, rivers, in 91% of the cases.
I'm a biology student, focus ecology & genomics, and trust me the only way to really personally help the environment w plastic pollution is to AVOID buying disposable plastics (includes microbeads in cosmetics, bags, blabla) as much as possible. And it makes for a BIG impact.
Especially imagine every person cutting down on disposable plastics.
If in any case it does end up getting "recycled", it just gets downcycled, with big energy losses and sometimes pollution from fuel for the recYcling plant, and then again ends up on a landfill ( eventually in seas, lakes, rivers...).
The ban on imports of western recyclable trash has lead to a further increase in plastic burning and landfill chucking, as the countries in southeast asia that initially tpok over China's, India's role of fumping ground were quickly overwhelmed withthe amounts of trash.
You cannot help the environment by feeding the demand for disposable plastic, any possible way you put it.
Its produced from oil and it's eternal waste that has destroyed ecosystems, and is continuing to do so.
The overconsumption creates a market for plastic trash, where it becomes a business to feed the pollution maximally, so that it can then get "recycled". That is why more and more products are overpackaged in plastic.
But it isnt recycled. It is mostly a big fat dangerous lie.
Behind the promise of recycling lies a dark secret.
It's Deception
Sure, "recycling" is probably statistically better than landfill, but the actual solution is avoid as much as possible, and "recycle" WHAT YOU CANT AVOID.
Please read more into this topic. I can send study resources if you ever want to
I noticed you mentioned recycling in one of your vids w Bald, so, it was on me to spread some awareness.
EDIT; here is a video on bottled water if you want to watch;
