it doesnt. Part of your liberty is taken away. It does make it worse, just still humane

@SS-xh5fs "two wrongs dont make it right". Sure, but this is pretty irrelevant here. It surely is miles apart whether someone killed the molester of his sister vs killed for greed/pure sadism or such. This monolithic, dogmatic, nuanceless black&white thinking you are seemingly presenting is typical of: -kids -religious folk, especially of the abrahamic religions -people whose life is waaay too nice and comfy, and who have been actively sheltered from the harsh reality of the world to a questionable degree. I was a kid not too long ago and sported this mentality. I was a religiously indoctrinated kid. Now Im not a kid and Im an atheist. Point being I know this black&white thinking all too well. It often stems from a place of being self righteous, judgemental, and from a fear of the unknown edit: typo

@bp8220 um What on earth is the relevance of that

Gamer480 do read up onthe effectiveness of rehabilitative justice. Vs the american multi billion dollar punitive prison industry, and its effects edit: replied to wrong person, now corrected

@aldoushuxley5581 it has been evidenced repeatedly by studies that rehabilitative justice has, well a hugely rebilitative power, while punitive justice creates a self propelling prison slavery industry, making things worse (like in the US).

rehabilitative justice shows tremendously positive results. Lowering the crime rate, and rate of recidivism by several times. Say what you will but society needs to set their priorities straight; enjoy seeing the transgressor (as well as wrongly convicted people) suffer, but make no positive changes that would lower the incidence of such behaviour, and instead make tremendously negative ones, or take the rehabilitative justice approach. One leads to short term satisfaction with harming the person who harmed (or is thought to have harmed, as a lot of convictions are false), the other one leads to long term improvement and overall has a large positive impact

Sunday Missal yeah, Finland, one of the most advanced countries in the world, with one of the lowest crime rates, "has made no advancements" due to not dogmatically shooting out punitive methods without contextualisation. Chill bruh edit; accidentally replied to the wrongperson, corrected

@MinnieMouse4792 exactly. The usa has an entire incarceration INDUSTRY. that is the reason why small amounts of wee lead to massive sentences. Its purpouse is not justice, that would be a revolting perversion of justice, it's tofeed this multi billion dollar industry. There's also a cultural trait in america wherein sadistic behaviour towards inmates is encouraged (guards beating up and torturing inmates). This way there is alsoa positive selection for violent psychopaths (and psychopathy is genetic), who find their behaviour has a place in american society; you cant torture illegally? just be a prison guard. edit; weed*

@obrnenydrevokocur9344 you see, Portugal isnt a "Scandinavian country", yet they adopted a fully rehabilitative model for drugs. I suggest you read up on what happened :) PS Finland isnt in Scandinavia. Sure its a Nordic country, but not Scandinavian

@neenann9431 xD Edit: Im a woman, but everyone thinks Im a man when I comment bahahhahah

@obrnenydrevokocur9344 so your entire point seems to be "eh a rehabilitative system in a country obliterated by a punitive prison industry would waste more money, therefore its bad" ???????????? w h a t
2
@anon5973 the person is not defending the murder, rather trying to illustrate how you shouldnt immediately join in on judging a situation you know nothing sbout
2
@obrnenydrevokocur9344 nononono, Portugal not only decriminalised drugs, but was the FIRST to do so, in the middle of astronomical heroin epidemic, and makes for a perfect case study. NOT ONLY THAT, but those caught using them were given a small fine, and instead free psychological support that is psychological rehabilitation. What does psychological rehabilitation have to do with rehabilitation models? well my "GreatGuy", isnt that an enlightened thing to say eh? I suggest taking a peek at the results of that change, especially in the form of graphs The rest isnt really worth responding to lol, just another eye poking case of pinhole circular reasoning

@obrnenydrevokocur9344 do you like, think that it's only up to me to provide direct sources (even tho unlike you I directly describe conditions and outcomes, and you need only to type it into a search bar), while your "punitive justice is far superior" bogus assertion can enjoy a special pleading fallacy? well no, "hun". Ill provide all the souces ya need on Portugal (its the middle of the night now so tomorrow), but you see boi, you do the same you are not special ;)
1
@obrnenydrevokocur9344 not only does your "point" not stand, but you had no point lmao. All you did is make an assertion ("punitive justice is far superior")
