@frankt5987 only then did they realize there is no government in Texas for the common people.

@Galaxxymeeps most houses in the world

Why are you blaming abbot instead of the private actors that own Texas electricity?
6
You are so close. Prepping is a communal activity. On an individual level it's just panic consumption. You've grown up in a land where your lords don't value your life. That can change.
4
@charlayned there are no regulations in Texas. That's why all your infrastructure sucks. I know you are a real Texan because your default response was to look at your individual perspective while being totally blind to the economic actors who own the systems that fail you.
4
Exactly. This is a problem that happens to one state in the U.S.
4
Your state has seen this at least 3 times in last 50ish years. Your power went out because you live in a state that cares more about the rich being rich than you being alive.
3
It is 2024 and Ercot has installed weathering on exactly one power plant. No prizes for guessing if that power is for rich people or poor people.
3
It's not insane. It's capitalism where the state doesn't compel the owners to care about anything but short term profits.
3
@bobbobery6460 Everything in Texas is built to make the rich slightly richer. Your welfare has never been a factor.
3
Come on man. You can't brag about the weather where you live and not say the state. If you say Wyoming I would be incredibly disappointed.
3
Spoiler. You will.

Plus side for Floridians. Thanks to climate change. The state of Florida has actively removed building codes and regulations (along with removing method for enforcing the remaining violations that are found). So more of these building collapses will happen more frequently in the coming years. Have fun with that.
2
The people who own that infrastructure (private rich Bois) knew they personally could just fly south and wait out the cold. They don't care what happens to the Texan peasants.
2
@BlahBlah-em2ed Before didn't have 110°F temps in humid AF Denmark.
2
@Saberking875 of course. Why would the texan serfs be free from toil just because they don't have heat for their hovel?
2
It's my FREEDUMB™ to do whatever I want to stay warm while I suffer the privations my economic overlords impose on me. -Average American

Luckily you have a communal living system so you totally know the majority of your neighbors. Right? Cause you live in Singapore where apartment living is done well.
1
@notahumanbeing6892 having a working power grid saves way WAY more lives. Which they could have if they organized together in place of individually hoarding.
1
Texans being vexed by a problem that only exists in Texas. Texas is surrounded by some of the poorest states in the U.S. but only Texas can't handle basic electrical public works(infrastructure).
1
Capitalism is responsible for this. Endless lust for ever greater short term profits.
1
The price the serfs of Texas pay for their freedom©
1
@ontheridge2019 A farm in Canada has the same reliable access to electricity as one of the largest cities in Texas.
1
Problem that only happens in Texas continues to vex Texans.
1
Crazy a problem that only happens in Texas keeps happening. Sure.
1
The state of Florida has removed regulations and inspection requirements though.
1
@RedRoseSeptember22 In capitalism that's the only kind of building that exists.
1
Problem that only exists in Texas continues to vex Texans.
1
Texans will do anything except act together to hold their economic overlords to basic standards that exist literally everywhere else in the U.S
1
@BlahBlah-em2ed Spoken like a poor person. Get back to work, making profits for people you'll never meet
1
@BlahBlah-em2ed Be enslaved or enslave others are your only choices and you think that makes you free. Peak serf mentality.
1
Texas is a barbaric place.
1
Hey now it's not so bad. Thanks to climate change your state government has actively removed building regulations and inspections. Ensuring things like this will happen more frequently. Plus side. The 80+ year old capitalist who own the coffin buildings will most likely be dead before they have to deal with the ramifications of their deliberate "cost cutting".
1
The mistake you are Making is thinking preparing is a "we" problem. Texas individualism means looking after you and yours. Any group larger than that acting in the common good has to be a church. Otherwise it's communism and Texas banned communism last century.
