He controls the media in Russia ruthlessly to point where they can't call a war a war. Facebook and Instagram have been banned for not bending to his will and YouTube regularly gets threatened with the same, I honestly don't think the average Russian knows what's going on.

Well it was actually the Soviet Union not Russia but it is true that the invasion as the Soviet Union was a disaster for Germany, more Germans died in in Russia than the west so don't be so dismissing of the Soviet part in the war. I do point out however the didn't fight a world war unlike the west but a regional war mostly on their territory
