  1. That's insane. The Republic of China was an army planted on an island only a third inhabited by Chinese. For two generations it was nothing but a supplier of cheap labour to the Japanese and American consumer economies. Through the hard work of its peoples, through outside investment, and through technical education in Japan and the US, it has emerged as a country -- fifty years after both it and the PRC were established.
