In the past ten years American life expectancies for both sexes have been up and down from year to year. GDP is just a number. Life and health are realities. America's wealthy have been the richest anywhere even further back than your Civil War claim. America's middle class live lives of quiet desperation -- hence their crazed reaching for this Trump nonsense -- and your working class, Kevin, have been worse off than Europeans and Japanese as long as I've been travelling between them, back to 1965. As for that 30 trillion versus 19, that's simply a matter of exchange rates. I don't think the US dollar is going to go the way of the ruble -- although I'm not handing out guarantees: Donald Trump is in some ways a very creative man. I think we'll see the Dow Jones down 50% before the midterms.
