  1. Congratulations to the writers for getting the British imperial issues into the story. Among other things, it is about time Americans found out, once again, that the United States has an often honorable role in opposition to British and other imperialisms. America's record is far from pure -- but it varies from a good base. Its record is of good which occasionally fails, not of evil with the rare dim light.

  2. @M smith Relax: America is fundamentally sound. Never forget, Trump lost by three million votes and was only appointed President through a glitch in the Constitution, the revenge of the slave-holders of 1789. Nothing's perfect, but a lot of things are pretty damn good. The coming election looks like it might be, too -- if people "Keep your hand n the plough, hold on" to use the words of the old hymn become civil rights anthem.

  3.  Min Tin  I don't think there's any evidence for the German Empire in East Africa and China before WWI being any less despicable than the English one. The Ottomans have an enviable reputation for religious tolerance and pluralism in the post-industrial period, the last couple of centuries. It is thus just faintly possible that you've found one decent candidate -- in a pretty nasty ten thousand year run for empires.
