@augustl607 Prices will go up -- but costs will go down. The diverted costs -- of picking up garbage, handling other people's waste, suffering through the pollution -- will be reduced as the cost is made visible and payable by the products and the people who caused them.

@augustl607 We already do it for, e.g. Coca-Cola bottles. There shouldn't be any problem doing it for Coca-Cola cans, should there? And it isn't done by your invention "a big government." It's done by the commercial process: Coca-Cola makes the drink, so Coca-Cola handles the bottles. Duh. Now, all we need is the two- or three-word change in the law to have them handle their cans as well.
