That capping old gas and oil wells is hardly a 2022 event: I did a television squib in 1965 on the repair then being done of the holes drilled in the Niagara Escarpment in the period 1890~1920 or so. In the same vein, the Rockefellers called for cap and trade on carbon exhaust in 1957, and founded some of the big environmental organizations of the 1960s to make the thing an issue. Faneuil Adams of Mobil Oil cried on my shoulder about how far the oil industry was ahead of both protesters and politics on this bag of issues in 1977. Now -- fifty, sixty years, two generations, later -- we're beginning to see movement on these issues.
