  1. I think the first clue is, Warren and Charlie don't invest in the market. They use the market as their main way of investing in companies. There are certainly traders who make big money by studying stocks and indices, i.e. other people's investment behaviours -- but the real money is made by understanding human needs, society, and the economies that serve them. That's the companies financed through the stocks.
