  1. The wonderful thing about tariffs is nobody really needs to "retaliate" except to satisfy the feral desires of their own constituents. Tariffs damage the party who imposes them. Trump has attacked China, it's true, but he has attacked America and Americans far worse. If the Chinese were really canny, disciplined, and perhaps a wee bit sadistic, they would simply do nothing and let poor Donnie and his childish ignorant pals Lighthizer and Navarro go piss up a tree. The score? China minus a wee bit, Team Trump minus big numbers. And in soft power, prestige, and long-term trust, that would be a smashing victory for China.
