  1.  @IlanSanto-vd7ei  If the Republicans sincerely wanted to control Latin immigration, insead of merely liking being able to appeal to the anti-Catholic hatreds within their base, they could accomplish it easily and quickly: in any of the many jurisdictions where they have political control they could simply restrict any aspect of job holding that they regulate to legal residents. Drivers' licenses here, if they control the DVD, bank accuonts cashing pay cheques wherever they control a state government... That would stop the whole thing in five years flat. They can't do it because most of the people employing illegals are Republicans -- because most of the people employing anybody are Republicans.

Decency of principle quite apart, Dex619 is almost certainly wrong. Haley is a right-wing extremist with a pretty face and DeSantis is a blunderer and a clod -- and so easy to beat that he's already beaten hhimself. Trump, by contrast, is cunning, devious, clever, and handsome if you squint in the same way we all do to make Kari Lake bearable. It will take real discipline and effort for the Democrats to beat him.
