"...it's the duty of everyone in uniform to refuse to follow an unlawful order." One of the implications of the Nuremberg Doctrine is that this is the duty of everyone in international law. The extent to which "international law" actually governs with consequences is a proposition still in development -- as it will be for the next couple of centuries, no doubt. I think the above, the Doctrine perhaps being Rule One, the foundation for the whole thing, is at the stage of "Serious or decent take this seriously." It's not going to send more than one or two people a year. Yet. I don't, for instance, think hat Putin is likely to go on trial at The Hague, but I think there's a functioning consensus that he just might. This is enough to change the man's travel plans. He was very circumspect about the recent conference in Africa and he now knows that his luxury villa in Spain is an investment he will never get to enjoy.

"Commander in Chief"? The Nuremberg Doctrine, that it is illegal to follow an illegal order, is the law of the land -- a fact which does not depend upon whether any American or any American legislation acknowledges the fact. It applies to the United States and to Donald Trump just as much as it applied to Germany in 1938 and that guy with the funny moustache.

Gaetz wants the whole House to vote line by line on legislation which has already been worked over line-by-line in Committee. His proposal simply doesn't understand how Congress and indeed American government all work.
