  1. It's simply not true that "we have no good solutions" to obesity. "Eat less" is a good solution. In fact it;s thousands and thousands of good solutions: you can eat less of lots of different things -- all the different things that make up your usual diet. You're welcome,

  2. Agreed. The guy is clearly intelligent and sane, I'm not sure that makes him more than an individual very competent practitioner: medicine is still an art rather than a science, and his patients are lucky that he's one of the good artists in the field.

Re Pollan's good and interesting "pests" stuff: statistic du Jour: if you spray standard bed-bug killer on bed bugs, it will kill 14% of them; if you spray pure water n bed bugs it will kill 14%of them. I mentioned this to our building's twice-a-month bug surveyor and he said "Yeah, everybody knows that -- but the new bug killer just coming out really works on all of them." I think that means "Stay tuned for the new bugs, just coming out..."
