Back in the late Sixties, when the Lockheed Tri-Star was in the game, it seemed to me there was a "character" question involved: Bill Boeing was a bird-watcher, and it clearly showed if you ever spent half an hour watching his planes land. The Lockheed folks, by contrast, were geniuses with wrenches and everything else in the toolbox. The 737 Max 8 looks a wee bit Lockheedy to me.
