The duty of police in situations like this is perfectly clear. It is to work with the parade marshalls or demonstration leaders to arrange and guide the parade or demonstration peacefully forward. It doesn't look as though the police or their superiors gave a second's thought to this beforehand.

The consciousness of a Republican thug combined with the clumsiness of the average Russian troll. Still a little rough around the edges, Shira. Your act needs a little more work.

@ShiraLiao Shira, There are essentially no "revolutionists" involved in this -- unless you count the Trumpist extremists of the Steve Bannon type, who want to install 14th-century corporate-statism in the place of democracy. Demonstrations in the US are always and everywhere citizens asking authorities to live up to American ideals and American laws.

@TheMomoney47 You got anything factual to say?

@ShiraLiao That is a definition. It doesn't fit these people. To demand an end to murder is, ahem, a program of law and order.

@ShiraLiao What makes me think what I have told you is my looking at the evidence. Duh. You can make anything without limit true by choosing a vague enough subject for your "they." I am writing about the bulk of the demonstrators and the run of ordinary Americans. You appear to be talking about a tiny minority of bad apples chosen for you by Fox or Trump or somebody. Thus we naturally reach different conclusions. Your "some of these rioters" is no doubt true. Your "some of these rioters" are an angry undisciplined fringe of the ignorant and stupid, or in some cases they are professional criminals making a profit out of the disorder. Remarkably often they are right-wing ideologues forging "evidence" by committing genuine crimes. In at least one case that has gone out on the air, there was no crime: there was a "writer" inserted into the picture by Fox's own photoshop forgery.

@tabithadorcas7763 Yes, Ms Dorcas, that was a parade. Interrupted by some bunch of uniformed hooligans who wanted to turn it into a confrontation apparently.
