@bryanleubg Nope. The US doesn't have high speed rail now, to copy. It didn't have high speed rail back in the 1950s, either, when the Shinkansen ws built.

The DOE headquarters, shown at 4:47, is one of a number of sick architectural jokes in DC: The Forrestal Building is on stilts, with the ground floor maybe thirty feet up in the air. Jamese Forrestal committed suicide in the 1940s -- by jumping out of his DC office window.

In fifty or sixty years of trying, nobody has yet managed to make this Holy Grail work -- although one American promoter has made an unlikely clam of "going energy positive" for a seccond or so. 'Course it took us roughly five thousand years of trying to make the blast furnace work, so who knows? It may work out in the end...
