  4. The basic problem of golf is how can speculators pay the taxes on land while they wait for a city to grow up around it. Put a golf course on it and charge people to talk around on it. But what if suburbias stop growing? No more automatic profits for speculators who manage to hold onto pieces of land. Then a ball comes along that wants longer holes? Um. Real estate speculation problem.
