  3.  @pontiuspilates  I don't think that "poor writer" thingie will fly. She's hugely successful in sales and convincing in her message. Aren't sales and converts the measures of a writer's ability? The problem is that her message is nonsense -- or ultimate truth, your call. Her "objectivism" is an egotism verging on solipsism -- than which almost nothing is more irrefutable.

  6.  @pontiuspilates  Sales are a good indicator of both popular opinion about what is great and of the effect of literary tropes. I think the fact that "Atlas Shrugged" sold 700,000 copies in Hungary in the last few years of Communism probably has a good deal to do with today's government there. I suppose you could call it a pot-boiler, but then isn't the huge market for the Bible somewhat a function of all that sensational virgin birth, blood and gore, and the hokey angels stuff in it?
