  1. : India, like China, will have it easy as long as it's simply a matter of burning more oil and copying Western capitalism. Then when they've copied the obvious stuff -- railroads, golf courses, McDonalds, all financed with funnypaper -- they find themselves in the position of Japan in 1980, and don't know what to do next. But for the next ten years India is going to be generating billionaires and air pollution like they were going out of style.   Which they are. -dlj.
