Steve Jobs simply stole the ideas Xerox-PARC had worked out and put them in a nice package, the Apple with lovely teak sides and then the Apple III, the plastic version, which competed neck and neck with the IBM chiclet-keyboard machine. The personal computer revolution happened when people put genuine keyboards in front of Bill Gates' version of Basic with decent keyboards -- but, uh, the information-industrial revolution got going around 1725~1829 when Stephenson married coal power to calculus. Google up "Stephenson Rocket" but take a look at the hundred years before that.
