A small, ancient, reminder: Clinton left a balanced budget and a national debt headed down so fast that economists were beginning to worry about what they would do with a negative national debt. Bushlet destroyed all that toot sweet, but as usual the succeeding Democratic Administration went to work repairing the damage. Then along came Trump: seven trillion, with a T, in the hole in four years flat. A truly amazing performance! Made possible only by whole-hearted incompetence in containing Covid.
