It really gets easier once you get it straight: it takes energy to make, separate, or refine hydrogen. Hydrogen is not a source of energy. It is the opposite; at the very very best it's a flaky, dangerous, persnicketty way of storing energy. You put ten in, you get maybe seven back.

One big mistake, one major lie: The mistake: Hydrogen is not a source of energy. It may be used as a form of energy storage. If you like, you use a lot of energy to separate hydrogen from oxygen in water. Then you can get most, but not all, of it back when you burn the hydrogen in air later. The lie: It is not true that burning hydrogen gives only water as a result. This video tells a straight-out lie when it makes that claim for hydrogen-engine automobiles. You would get only water if you burned hydrogen in pure oxygen. Air is 80% nitrogen with little tiny bits of CO2, argon, and other tiny leftovers. As a result, when you burn hydrogen in air you get a lot of water and a whole lot of varied nitrates and nitrides, some of them very unhealthy, and tiny amounts of other pollutants.
