Michael, It's a very good reason. Biden is the other viable candidate. In most states, you'll find from five to thirty-five other possibilities. It's called democracy. @floatsting20 The Obama Administration was concerned over the fact that Ukraine, a new member of NATO, was governed by a bunch of ought-and-paid-for, utterly corrupt, pro-Russian gangsters. Vice-President Biden was concerned about the particular crookedness of the top Ukrainian prosecutor, perhaps aware of his misdeed because his son, Biden, a high-powered commercial lawyer, had a major Ukrainian client. The people of Ukraine rose against their government and threw the bums out in a massive election defeat. Russia invaded the east of Ukraine, and Obama retaliated with the financial crippling of Russia, which remains in effect. (The Saudis helped by running the oil tap full blast, butting the price by something like 70%, which devastated the joint. Sadly, it also crippled the good guys in Venezuela, and those troubles are still with us: Trump is lying about Venezuela at every turn.) That's the essence of it. If you want to post on public affairs, you should make a habit of reading a varied array of the press. Avoid Fox which is a rancorous sewer of right-wing propaganda. Take everything else with a grain of salt because they are doing their best but they're human. Google and Bing are your friends: I encourage you to keep reading. As a general proposition America and the Constitution are sound, and people who make a career our of running the country down -- e.g. that "again" as thoug the country were not great -- are just self-serving dummies.

Vice-President Biden was supporting the European Community which had decided that the corruption of the prosecutor in question was a violation of EC laws. The US is, of course, not a member of the EC, but almost all the countries involved, including Ukraine, are members of NATO. The Obama Administration's back-up to the EC initiative was felt on both sides of the Atlantic to be a friendly supportive gesture in favour of law and order. The prosecutor was removed, as the EC had asked. Thank you for asking.

@Urbicide The points about Trump's tax returns are three, two "formal" one of actual political interest. The "formal" ones are that it is a tradition for presidential candidates to make public their incomes, commercial interests, and taxes. With regard to Mr. Trump this bifurcates: a.) He promised to follow the tradition but has not done so. b.) he has said a whole lot of things, e.g. that his taxes ar "under review, which turn out to be untrue or irrelevant, and he has not explained these untruths and irrelevancies. The actual political interest is that Mr. Trump often seems to act in odd ways, ways which might be more understandable if we knew where his income comes from. Joe Biden, you ask? Um, Joe Biden is the alternative President.

Mike Droze Don't worry, Biden will be there for eight years, and toward the end, he'll be just a nice old geezer like Eisenhower. Smarter than anybody gives him credit for, but decent, and fortunately well served. Ike had LBJ -- a good thing, since the Republicans, -- are you old enough to remember Ev and Charlie? -- always stabbed him in the back. The Democrats have a deep bench. Almost all of those candidates are Presidential quality -- and that nice Williamson lady would make a fine Ambassador. Bhutan maybe? "Gross National Happiness" is exactly her thing...
