Bombing, like fighter air-cover, is only useful as an aid to infantry. Bombing kills the wrong people most of the time, misses the intended target almost always. It has two uses, mass terror or the launching of missiles in the very rare cases where one has an identified target under a tight and rare set of constraints. Fighter cover is necessary to keep the black hats' bombers from randomly disrupting your own rear areas. Infantry, and only infantry, is what pacifies territory and suppresses organizations. ISIS finished? They're down to their last couple of billion in Saddam's stolen goodies, their last couple of thousand fighters, their last few hundred thousand followers. This week they hit it lucky: Trump gave them a huge victory, and they're back in the game.
