These poor dumb bastards don't seem to appreciate the role of golf courses: it is to pay the taxes on idle land until the nearby industrial or administrative economy grows up around them, increasing the market value of the land. A golf course without a nearby centre of increasing productivity and wealth is a dead weight loss, just a handy tool for evaporating expensive water.
