Were Spitfires already able to do a barrel roll, like that shown at the beginning of the clip above? The initial Spits had very faulty carburetors which would shut off fuel during a number of not terribly strange manoeuvres, but the plane went through 14 marques and doubled its horsepower in the course of its lifetime. I imagine this fix took place relatively quickly. (Something over 30,000 of the plane were made, and England was exporting them to Asia well into the jet age...)
