The entire polity of the modern Western world is designed and governed by three events: the adoption of Christianism as the Official Religion of the Roman Empire, the revolt of Northern Europe against the Romish version and the consequent invention of a bunch of national churches, and the attempt of America to build a democratic state which steps away from popular superstitions and the organizations operating them. In this perspective, might it be proportionate to cast the opposition of a section of the Chinese Communist Party to Tibetan Buddhism as an established religion as comparable to the US state of Georgia's laws making it illegal to wave snakes around in in churches?
