Still, it's worthwhile thinking about how exactly sensible it is: "Peak now" simply means we're not going to increase our bad acting. Peak later means, um, uh, we're dithering, and we're not really sincere, and we're entitled to get away with something, and FOAD. It's not a rational position. It's a position of not doing the right thing by deciding to do more of the wrong thing -- i.e. the wrong thing.

Depositers, despite their carelessnes, will get their money back. The price to the taxpayer: zero. Sadly, the whole thing was unnecessary: the stupidity was enabled by the repeal of prudent controls by the Trump Administration.

  15. There's an old story about a visitor to the new water pipeline into Manhattan visiting the site, a huge tunnel, and asking "Yes, but where do the pipes go? Up there on the wall?" "No, friend. This is the pipe." was the answer. What we see here is a few tiny pipes inside a rather small tunnel. This is not a major energy pipeline.
