@Likeqiang20 Not true. China is in a period of an important transition, from being a net recipient to becoming a net exporter of capital. Right now they are almost exactly at the world's average position, somewhere near to 50-50, slightly on the net recipient side because the world's curve is not precisely symmetrical.

"Insights"? Perfectly routine list of boasts. Lemme guess: you go to a lot of Chamber of Commerce lunches?

Sachs is half right about how bloody the Europeans' invasion of the Americas was. He misses the numerically salient point: smallpox did most of the killing. The mountain cities of the Peruvian highlands were desolate by the time Europeans found them: small poxhad killed entire populations before its "carriers" arrived. The disease traveled faster than the people who brought it across the Atlantic. And why does China have such a high population? Because the diseases which decimated Europe during the dark ages, i.e. the 12th to 17th centuries, had swept through China roughly two thousand years earlier. By "our" Middle Ages, many of Asia's populations had been the immune remainders of far ealier mass die-offs.
