  1. Hue does not have quite the chic of Chosin and Omaha Beach. At Hue, the United States was the gangster invader trying to suppress the people who lived there. The ordinary grunts showed the same bravery, I guess, but they were fighting for a bad cause. The French empire-builders had lost in 1941, again in 1945, and again in 1954. We were the bad guys, stupidly buying their losses from them.
