"Audited statements": Note that the accountancy "profession" in the United States has spent the last hundred years implanting deeply in law what it in fact says in almost every statement presented to the public: accountants work for the people who pay them, have no responsibility to anybody else, and do not vouch for the truthfulness of any documents they have signed off on because they reserve the right to claim that they weren't fully and honestly informed. This means that business representatives can claim "Lookee here, audited statements," and that means nothing whatsoever. American accountants operate under unique and amusing definitions of "fiduciary," "responsible," "disclosure," and a hundred other words you thought you knew the meaning of.
