What was relevant was the compressive strength, and of a shape, the tube, not any material. Different words. Different concepts: Compressive. Tube. No matter how strong the tensile strength of a tube, you can always wring it or bend it and squeeze the life out of whatever's in the middle. Tensile sstrength has almost nothing to do with resitance to wringing or bending of the shape "tube."
