There is a strong difference here: the Chinese government is pro-China; the American government has been subverted by Trump. This means the Chinese will be economically rational. If they "play games" they will simply be switching between long and short term aims thinking in terms of their own strategies and their own internal politics. America, by contrast, will not be rational. It is in the hands of an ignorant, selfish, impulsive, undisciplined, and not highly intelligent individual. Scary times for us all. Very bad times for America.
