  1. I was stunned to see a recent photograph of Chongqing. The place is as modern as Tientsin or Guangjong, apprently. I think a lot of us in the West have impressions built of writing about China dating back to WWII, when the city was the Nationalists' capital for a while. Thematic sentence: "The whole city smells of shit." No more. Congratulations!
