My cousin was a stewardess ("Damn it, I was a STEW, not some frickin' hostess like at a restaurant") back in the era. Based out of New York, she and her roomies packed nice sturdy, sharp hatpins to secure their cute lil hats and for hand to hand combat with their dates. Some carried a brick in their purse (the "fun" in "fun city"sometimes took on gladiatorial aspects) imagine a brick whipped up alongside your skull at the end of a leather strap....Nancy would have loved packing one of these pistols, one of our uncles taught all of his nieces and nephews to shoot and she was pretty darn good. She lived with five other girls in an apartment (half were on the road at any time, so it's not as bad as it sounds) in a "Srew Zoo" building which had gals from a dozen different airlines living there. Always liked visiting when I was home from college = somebody had just gotten off duty and was throwing a party. A male fantasy come true!
