  1. War story time. When I was a senior in college one of the guys who had graduated in the previous year in Law Enforcement and Corrections came back to homecoming. He had found a job as a guard at the county hoozegow back home. So, I'm talking with him in the fraternity bar (not the BAR) and he mentioned that their armory had some Thompsons but no one had touched them for years because no one knew how to field strip and clean them - apparently the manuals had gotten misplaced over the course of four decades. I told to come up to my room, pulled out my copy of Smith & Ezell's "Small Arms Of the World" (1966 Edition- Christmas present from my folks in 1970) and opened it to the entry on the Thompson - complete with stripping and cleaning instructions. He was amazed and headed home on Sunday afternoon with a photocopy of that entry. My contribution to making America safer.
