  1. I agree, we still had some BAR's in my ROTC unit 1970-71 and it was hell to field strip and clean compared to more modern weapons.

  2. Yes. If the Army got rid of them, there was no money for a replacement. Then with WW2, Friedman's Iron Law of Mobilization states - "You continue to build what you are already building" which he uses to explain how the entire 1941generation of USN warships was never built in favor of keeping building the 1939 generation. Having said that, imagine if the US had adopted a 30-06 Bren....
