Hypersonic missiles are highly maneuvrable in the better part of their trajectory, and only Russia, China, and North Korea, are believed to have such capability.

It's true "strength" lies in deterrence, as it can inflict equal damage to Russia, in return. Otherwise, the US regime always targets weak countries in the 3rd world, cringing when it comes to confront Russia, even in conventional warfare, hence no NATO boots in Ukraine.

The high altitude interception of nuclear ICBMs is supposedly aimed at countering them when they are still in midcourse, before they had deployed their warheads. But in a real world scenario, ballistic missiles, particulary multi-warhead ICBMs are unstoppable. The whole array of Israeli air defense system, which includes the US "Thaad", failed several times, dealing with lone Yemeni attacks. Image what would happen, if Yemenis were able to launch missiles in salvos? The same goes for nuclear ICBMs, which are much faster and more advanced.
