  1. Polynesians are the descendants of (Proto) Austronesians. Not their ancestors. Polynesians are basically the result of intermarriage of Austronesians with Papuans and Melanesians. The language and culture is still almost wholly Austronesian, but genetically, they've been mixed with the locals they came across in Papua. It's similar to the Malagasy of Madagascar, whose culture and language is still mostly Austronesian, but genetically they've mixed with later East African settlers.

  3. That's changing as more and more Wahhabist ideals are being imported. From returning hajjis to Saudi Arabian or Qatari-sponsored mosques and scholars. Indonesia and Malaysia are slowly becoming Arabized, as the native cultures and customs are erased. And this also brings with them the sectarian conflict that is destroying the Middle East. Terrorism is on the rise. Particularly against the non-Muslim minorities, as well as in the borders with Buddhist Thailand and Christian Philippines.
