  1. As a Filipino, the fact that he started his career doing what we in the Philippines call "Filipino-baiting" (it's a real thing that channels do to quickly gain subs), tells me all I need to know about what he is. A clout chaser.

  3.  @PyxeledGenesis  Kinda. 1. We speak English (former American colony). 2. We are one of the most active countries on social media (usually within the top 10 worldwide). 3. We have a very large diaspora that rarely gets recognition because we assimilate very well (so people don't realize we're Filipino) and/or we have Spanish surnames (so people assume we're Latino) - e.g. Valkyrae, Bruno Mars, Olivia Rodrigo, Bretman Rock, Bella Poarch, Michael Reeves, Dave Bautista, Kirk Hammett, Shay Mitchell etc.). 4. Related to #3, we generally get easily excited when someone mentions anything related to us (especially the older generations). So a channel (even a mere reaction channel) reacting to Filipino things (like what Def Noodles did) can get literally hundreds of thousands of views quickly from people just surprised that someone "noticed us". A lot of youtubers have realized this in recent years. Particularly youtubers starting out who build their channel on it, then switch topics later on (like what Def Noodles did). I mean, it's fine for people with Filipino descent (or have a Filipino partner, or living here in the Philippines). It gets sketchier when it's people who have zero cultural ties and are just doing it for the views and subs. Note that this phenomenon also happens for other smaller countries but is more pronounced in the Philippines because of #1 and #2, and our much higher population.

  5.  @tBeNz0  It's not that simple, really. A lot of the viewers are from older generations. You know how they are with social media. They barely read the comments. Most don't even understand that influencers are earning, much less the concept of clout chasing. Plus, "wreaking havoc" wouldn't really reflect well on us either. If we started doing that, people would then avoid topics that relate to us, making us even more invisible than we already are. It's not like they can get canceled, when no one outside of us even know there's a problem. Worse, they can start doing the opposite and start disparaging us. That has happened to a few cases actually. Most of them eventually stop doing it, anyway. At least once they've squeezed all the revenue they could from it and got the minimum numbers to start being on the algorithm. And it doesn't really have real life effects, so IMO the best solution is to just let them be until more people catch on to what they're doing.

  7. A real comedian would have turned all that criticism into actual funny material. Instead, he did the worst thing a comedian could do: he took it personally.
