@A.Baskoro-pl7zx They're middle class in the Philippines too. :P haha. The point really is to make them look poorer, and thus less of a target. It's the same reason why middle class families in the Philippines rarely paint their houses or have decorations outside.

Yep. We know about the security guards. Hence why we treat them more like doormen for the most part, despite their visible guns. It's more like a tradition by now, which is why it puzzles us when foreigners get so uncomfortable around them. They've never caused problems and they do deter crime at least, since those guns are real. Armed robberies are extremely rare in the Philippines, in comparison to western countries like the US, for example. There are TRUE security guards though, the ones in airports and ports. Those are more no-nonsense.
