@meh8982 None of the sweet potatoes pictured are orange. It's just a genuine ignorance of what raw ingredients look like. Reminds me of some survival games set in the tropics which label pandan trees as "yuccas". One grows on beaches, the other is a completely unrelated desert plant. Or yeah, the common depiction of coconuts in western media as completely dehusked, even when they're still on trees.

Fermented meat? What about the more obvious fermented food: fish. It's found throughout the world and thus was more likely to be the more common way proteins were fermented. Plus, it's an explosion of umami. Most of the early human migrations are near coastlines, although most evidence of that has been submerged from the rising sea levels.
