  1. I'm disappointed that you made no mention of the fact that the island was settled by Austronesians. The same group that includes islander Southeast Asians, Melanesians, Micronesians, and Polynesians. It would explain the use of slash-and-burn agriculture, which was essential among Austronesians for clearing forests to create paddies for rice, yam, and taro agriculture (which they also brought to Madagascar).
