  17. Ralph Dwane Good Jr, throughout much of American history, the idea of avoiding military service for ANY reason was considered to be the most unpatriotic and unAmerican thing one could do. The only time draft dodging was ever considered even somewhat acceptable was during the Vietnam era. The overall (public) opinion toward the conflict was negative, so avoiding service in Vietnam was not frowned upon. In the recent times, the wars in Iraq have lost their popularity with the American public due the crippling cost and loss of life. So avoiding military service to avoid going overseas was likely encouraged by the younger generation. However, a President having made it a point to be deferred from military service five times for “bone spurs”, just shows he was unwilling to serve his country. So when his most ardent supporters call him patriotic, true veterans can’t accept that. No patriotic American would find ways not to serve his (or her) country.

  20. Dylan Britto, without the draft, how many people do you think would have volunteered for the nations wars? Not many. Peoples true patriotism only goes so far. When you tell them they are going off to some foreign land and might die, that “patriotism” tends to disappear quick. You’re claiming that 57% of military and veterans are loyal to Trump? I’m willing to bet it’s about half that. Trump would never “lead from the front”, and all of our armed forces and veterans have been taught that leaders should always lead by example. Trump does NOT.
