I’ve seen this comment made several times over the past year “I haven’t seen Democrats this angry since we made them give up their slaves” Modern day Republicans referring to slavery in the 1800’s and claiming they freed the slaves. The problem with this statement is that it’s Historically inaccurate. Firs off, LINCOLN Freed the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation, Not the Modern Republican Party. The Democratic Party was Founded in 1828 as Conservative to preserve slavery in the SOUTH. The Republican Party was Founded in 1854 the NORTH to fight slavery Democrats and Republicans of that time where basically the exact opposite of what they are today. Over a period of roughly 100 years, the Parties slowly changed their ideals as people from both changed sides. Another statement that is made is “the KKK is was founded by the Democrats to oppress blacks” The KKK was founded by SOUTHERN WHITE DIXIECRATS who had no association with the modern Democratic party. The Democrat Party slowly became more progressive and Liberal minded and fought for the civil rights of Minorities among other things. While the Republican party branded itself the conservatives and fought for “traditional American values” it felt the country had strayed from. Another problem with the original comment is that only about 5% of the south where slave owners and even many of the Founding Fathers owned slaves. I challenge ANYONE to dispute these FACTS. I’ve done my research.
