Our government and their agencies (NSA, CIA, FBI, ETC) have a long history have hiding the truth from the public "for our own good". If this virus or one similar to it, had originated in America there would have every attempt by our own government to hide it and deny it's existence. Thousands would likely have died before our own government eventually admitted there was a problem and by then, it would be too late.

Wear masks (yes they do work), isolate sick people, test EVERYONE, stay home as much as possible. limit interactions as much as possible.

Indefinately? no, but certainly longer than two months. We suffered through the Great Depression for TEN years.
