But we should not lower ours because millions would lose their Social Security checks, Medicaid, and food stamps. Then we would look like a third-world country. However, I think there needs to be some awareness, both nationally and internationally, of what Americans have here. Most foreigners think Americans live at the level of Russians, but with more homelessness. That allows them to think they are somehow better.

The blue States are getting artificially reduced food prices in their grocery stores that is being paid for by farms in the red states. Additionally, any visit to a hospital emergency room is free if you cannot afford to pay it. Then for working people, their company carries group insurance plans that they become a member of. This is private insurance from a corporation. Your company pays part of the insurance premium and you pay part of it. Then if none of that covers you, you can buy private health insurance directly. But it is the highest cost. The average national cost for private health insurance is $700 a month. The median monthly salary in the United States $5500 a month. On average, your private insurance cost would be around 13% of your income. In America, we do not expect everything to be free. We expect everyone to work and pay their fair share. Free is for disabled and retired who are not able to work. (And I might add that your own health insurance is not free either. You pay for it when you pay your taxes. 😃)
